RCA VBR 5320 Digital Recorder
In this video I take a look at a very interesting handheld digital recorder that I found in a surplus store. This is the RCA VBR 5320 digital recorder. In the video I go over the buttons on this device, and a few of the features that it offers. As I mention in the video, I think this may have been one of the first handheld digital recorders that offered a built-in USB connection. This little recorder is good for voice notes, or if you are a college student who needs to record lectures. I will mention, however, that even though this device does have a microphone input, you cannot input stereo sources like a turntable, cassette deck or reel to reel. It is simply not designed for that. If you are seeking a recorder for that purpose, I would highly recommend the Sony ICD UX 570. I have made several videos on that recorder, and even have a playlist dedicated to it which I suggest you check out. As I demonstrate in the video, even though there is a "HQ" mode, the recordings do not sound very high quality to my ears. Maybe that's why this thing ended up at a surplus store? If you are also looking for a simple recorder to record live music shows, this will do the trick, however, as I said, just don't expect extremely high quality recordings. As a footnote, I think I paid less than $10 for this thing. It is light, compact and very portable. If you find one second hand for a low price, it may just be what you are looking for, if you are not too finicky about recording quality. Have you ever used this RCA VBR 5320? What do you think of it? How did you use it? How do you think it compares to other handheld digital recorders? Feel free to leave a comment! On this channel I post videos relating to retro and vintage technology. Things like cassettes, CDs, old cameras, laser disc, radios, TVs, DVDs, vinyl, VCRs, home recording gear, microphones, mixers, synthesizers, drum machines, video games, and so much more.
