Every year from mid-October to late November, boat salmon fishing is available in Funka Bay. Chum salmon (commonly known as Aki-maji), which migrate offshore, approach the coast at this time of year. Before they head upstream, these fish, well-fed and energized, put up a fierce fight. But what's more, this year appears to be a disappointing year for salmon runs. The anglers braced themselves for a tough battle, knowing they might even catch one. This program originally aired on December 6, 2008.
