Alejandro Horowicz: “Milei marcha hacia la catástrofe obvia y anunciada“

#AlejandroHorowicz #Horowicz #Interview Alejandro Horowicz, PhD in Social Sciences, writer, and journalist, visited Rosario to present his book, "Plaza Tomada: What Does the Mythical October 17th Have to Tell Us Today?" and shared his reflections on the current situation in Argentina, the presidency of Javier Milei, and the factors that led to the "La Libertad Avanza" (Freedom Advances) government. According to the essayist, this governmental experience "is marching toward the obvious and predicted catastrophe," something that is becoming evident even to the economist's core supporters. Horowicz spoke with Conclusión minutes before the book presentation. He compiled and edited various texts that address October 17, 1945, not as a memory or a postcard, but as a contested territory. The material, which includes writings by various authors, does not seek to reach agreements or construct syntheses; it aims to question what the rebellious underbelly of the nation still has to say. "This is heading towards the predicted and obvious catastrophe. The outcome (of Milei's government) is only unknown to those who choose to ignore it. For everyone else, it's obvious. When this begins to become increasingly evident and obvious, even to the hard core of those who voted for him, we start to see his approval rating plummet in the opinion polls. However, the drop in Milei's approval rating doesn't translate into an increase in the approval rating of almost anyone else," the writer pointed out. In that sense, he indicated that the advance of the right wing stems from "the empty promises of a left wing that is only left-wing in rhetoric" while "its political and social practices lead to this." It is in this scenario that the opposition alternatives fail to present themselves as compelling, since—says Horowitz—they enter the marketplace of rhetoric and don't speak seriously or take the political debate beyond the order each candidate will occupy on the ballot. "In other words, it's not that they don't believe Milei. They don't believe him or anyone else. However, there's a difference between Milei and the others. He has a better relationship between what he says and what he does. Even though the relationship is very weak, it still exists. With the others, it's nonexistent, just low-quality rhetoric," he asserted.
