The annual Fugen Festival has begun at Fugenji Temple in Hikari City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, which has been held since the mid-Edo period! This year, it will be held on May 14th and 15th, and has been crowded with many worshippers since the first day. The Fugen Festival is a traditional event held on the anniversary of the death of Shoku Shonin, who founded Fugenji Temple, and began about 400 years ago. Today's Great Prajna Prayer Meeting attracted many people to pray for protection from misfortune. There are many stalls lined up around the temple, and local elementary school students and families are enjoying themselves. In particular, at the popular haunted house, excited voices were heard saying, "It was so scary!" The Fugen Festival usually attracts 20,000 to 30,000 visitors over the two days, and many people are surprised by the liveliness and the number of diverse stalls.
