Transforming The Allotment With A First Tunnels Polytunnel!
This week there's a super exciting addition to the new allotment! My dream polytunnel! First tunnels have come and installed a 14 x 25ft polytunnel for me. I'm very grateful they built it for me, as I'd be pretty useless building it myself! First Tunnels have very kindly gifted and built this polytunnel for me, to allow me to grow a range of different crops through the entire year, and share it all with you guys! The structure is incredibly strong, owing to the anchor plates which keep the polytunnel secure, as well as the crop bars, twin support bars, and diagonal wind braces. I can actually do pull ups on the crop bars, and the polytunnel doesn't move at all! The polytunnel includes double sliding doors at both ends which are fitted with vents for good air flow. The door frames are also driven into the ground, increasing its strength even further. I opted for double sliding doors with vents so I didn't have an issue with ventilation in the summer. The plot doesn't get direct sun all day long. It is shaded in the late afternoon, after around 2pm. This is probably a blessing in disguise as keeping the poly cool in the summer would otherwise be a challenge. The orientation of the tunnel is North to south, rather than east to west. This couldn't be helped, as if I did position it east to west, it would be well in the shaded part of the plot.. if it even fit. I have decided to go with a 3 bed layout in the tunnel with beds on either side and a central bed. Paths will be membrane and woodchip. I probably need to add some guttering so I can divert the insane amount of water that runs off the very large roof. Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the quality of this polytunnel. I'm over the moon with it, and cannot wait to start growing in it! Link to First Tunnels. There's currently up to 20% off their polytunnel kits: https://www.firsttunnels.co.uk/ #firsttunnels #polytunnel #gardening #allotment
