Siamo bolognesi e camminiamo sotto i portici!
We couldn't imagine our city without its porticoes; it would seem bare, less welcoming. They are one of Bologna's symbols and have led it to hold the record for the city with the most porticoes in the world, with over 50 km of them, if we look beyond the historic center. We spoke with someone who has written and photographed Bologna's porticoes. Gianni Castellani is holding his book—co-authored with Giampaolo Zaniboni—"Under the Porticoes of Bologna." Leafing through it, one is fascinated by the richness and diversity of this unique heritage, unique to Bologna. We met Gianni under another record-breaking "corridor," the Portico of San Luca, which, at 3,796 meters and with 666 arches, holds the record for being the longest in the world. Meanwhile, Bologna and its porticoes await another important verdict: their admission to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Go Bologna!
