"No More Hidden Common Roll!" Wau-Waria MP Pressures PM Ahead of 2027 PNG Election
Will every Papua New Guinean be able to check their name before the 2027 National General Election? In Parliament today, Wau-Waria MP Marsh Narewec called on Prime Minister James Marape to guarantee that the National Common Roll is made fully accessible to the public before the 2027 elections. The MP stressed that while the proposed biometric voting system and one person, one vote reforms are important, there may not be enough time to fully implement them before 2027. Instead, he urged the government to immediately make the Common Roll available so every eligible voter can verify their registration. Prime Minister James Marape responded by assuring Parliament that the government will work closely with the Electoral Commission to ensure a transparent, accurate and publicly accessible Common Roll before the 2027 National General Election.
