ARDEŞEN Rize - Doğu Karadeniz #20
Hello. Today, we are in the Ardeşen district of Rize in our Eastern Black Sea Province and District Centers series. Have fun watching. Ardeşen is a district of Rize, 45 km from the city center. The district, which has a surface area of 743 km², has a population of 43 thousand in 2020. It is surrounded by Fındıklı in the east, Pazar in the west, Altınparmak Mountains in the south and Black Sea in the north, and its coastline is 10 km. Ardeşen became a district on March 1, 1953. According to a rumor, he took the name Ardeşen as follows; While Yavuz Sultan Selim was Trabzon Sanjak Bey, he wanted to claim the Ottoman throne and needed the help of his son, Kepa Sanjak Bey, to achieve this goal. While passing through the area along the coast to get help, he sees pieces of wood in Fırtına Creek. The area is completely empty, swampy and bush. When those around him told him that no one lived in the area; Yavuz Sultan Selim pointed to the pieces of wood in the stream and said, “This town is not secluded, look, the stream carries chips. The back of this region is şendir”, which means that there are settlements in the higher parts. The word "Ardeşen" is settled as Ardeşen in the colloquial language over time. The average temperature of the district, which has a temperate, rainy climate in all seasons, is around 15 degrees. As you go to the interior, the climate gets a little harsher. Almost a quarter of Ardeşen's steep and rugged terrain is forested. The main agricultural product grown on the arable land of around 10% is tea. Products such as hazelnut, kiwi and corn grown outside of tea are mostly consumed within the district. It can be said that animal husbandry in the district is for the needs of families dealing with this activity. ASİLSAN, which was established in 1993 in order to put the ongoing arms production in the district within a legal framework, is Turkey's first private arms factory. Rafting can be done in Fırtına Creek, which is the largest stream, as there are many suitable tracks. The settlement of Ardeşen was mentioned for the first time as "Ardaşen" in a document dated 1846. Ardesen was ruled by the Russians between 1916 and 1918. Ardeşen, which was previously a district of Pazar, became a district on March 1, 1953. There are examples of mosques, churches, arch bridges and houses as historical artifacts in Ardeşen. In addition, the Süleyman Dede Tomb in Seslikaya Village is one of the important historical monuments. That's it from Ardeşen. Next week, we will go a little inland from the Black Sea coast and be in the beautiful Çamlıhemşin district. Don't forget to stay tuned.
