Former Pakistani Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Naeem Lodhi, speaking from Islamabad, asserted that Pakistan is playing a "remarkable role" in bridging the gap between the United States and Iran. He noted that Pakistani Army Chief of Staff, General Asim Munir, is the "qualified person" for this task, despite the highly political nature of the issue. He explained that the fruit of Pakistan's efforts lies in its having "stopped the war" between the US, Iran, and Israel, albeit temporarily, which he described as "remarkable" and an achievement in itself. The former minister revealed that Israel, in cooperation with the US, failed to eliminate Iran, and that the US pressured President Trump and limited his powers. He expressed optimism about reaching a solution and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but stressed that lifting sanctions and releasing frozen Iranian assets will take time. He indicated that both sides are "exhausted" and cannot afford to return to war, as it would not be in their interest. He added that Iran has achieved some objectives (by not being broken), and that the US and Israel have been unable to destroy it. Regarding the opening strike, the minister said that Trump should first announce the lifting of the naval blockade, and then Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Congress does not support continuing the war against Iran. He warned that a return to war would be catastrophic, as Russia and China would intervene, Iran would strike US bases in the Gulf states, and the war would escalate into a full-blown regional confrontation.
