CEMITÉRIO DO ARAÇÁ - SÃO PAULO

History of Araçá Cemetery. Founded on June 4, 1887, after a major epidemic that ravaged São Paulo in 1878, and located between the Pacaembu and Pinheiros neighborhoods, the Araçá Municipal Cemetery occupies a 222,000 m² plot. The establishment of this cemetery is directly associated with the rise of Italian immigrants in the city, who sought a specific place to bury their dead. At the time, the Consolação Cemetery was practically full, and its spaces were reserved for the so-called "four hundred" families, the São Paulo elite linked to coffee production. #cemetery #cemetery
