BOB DOWNE, the comedy creation of Mark Trevorrow, spent the 1990s living and working in London where he made multiple British TV and stage appearances, culminating in THE BOB DOWNE SPECIAL, his 1996 New Year's Eve comedy variety special for ITV. Written and performed by Trevorrow, Bob's guests were young stars ANT & DEC, MARTINE McCUTCHEON, and the late great ANTHONY NEWLEY, in one of his last TV appearances. Also featured are LISA KELLY, KIMBERLEY DAVIES and DIANA MORAN. Music Director LAURIE HOLLOWAY led a superb band and the show was recorded 12 September 1996 in the famed London Weekend studios on Southbank, and aired on NYE, 31 DEC 1996. This is an off-air VHS recording broadcast by the Anglia TV franchise, including ads featuring Rowan Atkinson (Barclaycard) and the voice of Caroline Ahern (Thomas Cook), and a promo for Des O'Connor's talk show featuring Barbra Streisand!
