BIBLE COURSE FOR THEOLOGY TRAINING: ► https://bit.ly/estude-teologia-online The question of whether the apostle Paul was married has intrigued many people throughout the history of the Church. In fact, many scholars have discussed the hypotheses of whether the apostle Paul was single, married, widowed, or even divorced. In the Bible, we find some interesting details about this, but they do not completely resolve this curiosity. This is because there is no biblical text that specifically and in detail addresses the apostle Paul's marital status, so to speak. The only information we have is that, during his apostolic ministry, when he wrote his letter to the believers in the city of Corinth, Paul did not have a wife—that is, he lived a celibate life (1 Corinthians 7:7-8). However, this does not necessarily mean that Paul was never married. Considering that he was a zealous Pharisee and directly involved in the affairs of the Jewish Sanhedrin, many scholars believe it is possible that the apostle Paul was married but that, during his ministry, he was already widowed or divorced. In first-century Jewish culture, marriage was seen as part of a divine commandment, and it was not very common for a man to remain single. However, often, when a person converted to the Gospel, the unbelieving spouse did not accept this new reality and abandoned the Christian spouse. If the apostle was married, he could have been abandoned by his wife at the time of his conversion.
