Ogugo Mmuo: The Igbo Ancestral Technique Of Moving The Universe- Ikwa Aja, Iru Agwu,Igo Ofo.

What we call rituals or ogugo mmuo are techniques of moving the universe at an unseen level or state. It is also perceived as the language of the soul “ilo/igo mmuo”, a bridge to the universe. This is because, as humans, we cannot manufacture high-level creativity without being linked to the universe, hence, all creativity, knowledge, etc, begins and ends with the universe but it can be moved through rituals. In our ancient Igbo society, our ancestors ritualized every aspect of their life and saw meanings within every natural and unnatural circumstance, this aided them by improving their standard of living, which ultimately enabled them to live long irrespective of the era they lived. They understood the need to ritually engage with their personal spiritual forces through “Igo-Ofo” and engage in periodic removal of negative aura and vibrations, which can be detrimental to their spiritual and physical health, this is done with the usage of “Aligator Pepper” or some herbs “Iwu/Isa Uchu”. They understood the universal frequencies and steadily tuned into them, hence why, when an individual exhibits some psychotic tendencies or constantly behaved in a socially unacceptable way, our ancestors begin to question them and link this to a universal force known as “Agwu”. To them, this deficiency is rooted in the individual’s inability to tune into his or her Agwu frequency, thereby making the individual unaligned with this creative frequency, hence, the performance of “Iru Agwu” as a technique to hold this Agwu by identifying its frequency, we also call this “Ijitu Agwu/ Mmadu”. As creatures of habit, our ancestors encoded every aspect of our existence within nature as a repository for language and information, they also prescribed rituals/techniques that can be used to extract these information when its value can be respected and appreciated. Moreover, they have given us a simple clue within the interpretation of this proverb “Uzu amaghi akpu ogene, nya lee egbe anya n’odu”. When we closely examine these claims, we’d come to the realization that every local or international technological advancement, is mostly an extract from nature.
