A Tale of Two Witches. 1646. Heptonstall.
In the 16th Century, Britain lived in fear, paranoia and superstition of witches. Specifically in the North of England, the Pendle Witches became notably well known. A couple of centuries prior, Mother Shipton was making prophecies to impress King Henry VIII. A few decades after the Pendle Witch trials, Witches had started to fade from the paranoid minds of England, although some smaller areas still claimed to face issues of witchcraft in their vicinity. Such an issue was taking place in Heptonstall, and a very real fear caused by one Elizabeth Crossley, with the locals truly believing she had the power to cause death.
