Can viruses help fight harmful bacteria? Yes! Our BACTOSTRIKE project demonstrates the remarkable role of bacteriophages—viruses that specifically infect and destroy harmful bacteria. A bacteriophage injects its genetic material into a bacterial cell, hijacks the cell's machinery to produce new bacteriophages, and ultimately destroys the bacterial cell. The newly formed bacteriophages are then released to attack other harmful bacteria, making them a promising alternative in the fight against bacterial infections.
