Undaunted: Stalingrad — Finally Supporting Vertical Storage
Undaunted: Stalingrad creates one of the most ambitious campaign experiences in modern board gaming. The city evolves. Armies change permanently. Components disappear, return, and transform across the campaign. That complexity creates a storage problem. When I originally designed this insert, I intentionally prioritized table usability and campaign organization over vertical storage. A lot of players appreciated that decision. Others wanted a safer way to store the game upright on the shelf. In this video I walk through the updated version of the insert — including the redesign work that now fully supports vertical storage after extensive player feedback and testing. ⸻ GET THE UNDAUNTED: STALINGRAD INSERT Physical version (Etsy): https://artisanworlds.etsy.com/listin... Infantry, armor, and command units fight across a city that physically changes over the course of the campaign. The original storage solution struggled to keep pace with that evolution. I designed this insert to organize changing armies, legacy content, destroyed city tiles, standees, decks, and tokens into a system that supports the entire campaign without constant resorting or repacking. Then the community pushed the design further. After hearing from players who wanted vertical shelf storage, I revisited the internal structure, thought about sleeving, and the design of the game itself to make vertical storage possible while preserving the speed and usability that define Undaunted. The updated insert now supports: • Full vertical storage • Sleeved cards • Legacy campaign organization • Rapid scenario setup • Logical faction-based tray organization • Dedicated city tile management • Stable stacked tray architecture The city trays remain one of my favorite parts of the design. I split the battlefield into active and replacement city systems, making destruction and rebuilding feel like part of the storage itself instead of maintenance between games. I also carried forward the same visual language used across the Artisan Worlds Undaunted collection — brick textures, layered trays, balanced stacking, and art-forward organization designed to feel like part of the game world instead of generic storage. ⸻ If you’d like to add these to your table, you can find them here: Physical version (Etsy) https://artisanworlds.etsy.com/listin... I experiment with ways to improve setup, organization, immersion, and the tactile experience of play through engineered inserts, upgraded components, and thoughtful physical design. I’m not building accessories for people who simply own games. I’m building them for people who love them. If there’s a component in a game you think deserves a redesign, let me know in the comments.
