Bezaubernde Arabella (1959) - with English subtitles, based on the novel by Georgette Heyer

One of only two screen adaptations of Georgette Heyer's novels, this 1959 German film bears little resemblance to its source material. It has its own charms (though we would be remiss not to give trigger warnings for outright racism, attempted sexual assault, and the hunting of both big and small game) but should in no way be considered a reflection of Heyer's very popular and enduring 1949 novel, Arabella. Notable changes include: The fundamental plot, the time period, the relationships, some characters' ages, most characters' personalities and motivations, the aforementioned outright racism, sexual assault and hunting, and a secondary love interest.
