He is the first German driver to win the Formula One World Championship, and he played a significant role in the spread of Formula One in Germany and its significant audience. In a 2006 survey conducted by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), he was voted the season's most popular driver by Formula 1 fans. He began his Formula 1 career in 1991 with the Jordan team. He then signed with the Benetton Formula One team, earning his first race victory in 1992, his first full season. He won two consecutive championships in 1994 and 1995, becoming the youngest double champion (this record was later broken by Fernando Alonso in 2006). Following his two championships with the Benetton Formula Team, he began his career in the 1996 season with Scuderia Ferrari, winning five championships between 2000 and 2004. Schumacher holds dozens of records, including "most championships," "most race wins," "fastest laps," "most points," and "most race wins in a season." His record as "most record-breaking driver" is the greatest testament to his success. He broke the record for being the first (and only) driver to finish on the podium in every race in a season in 2002. Schumacher, who suffered a broken right leg in a crash at the Stowe corner on the first lap of the 1999 British Grand Prix and missed six races that season, announced his retirement from Formula 1 after the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on September 10, 2006. He retired after the Brazilian Grand Prix on October 22, 2006, his 250th career, and was succeeded by Kimi Raikkonen. Along with his brother Ralf Schumacher, who currently races in the DTM series, Schumacher holds the record for most races in Formula 1 history. They are the first brothers to win and achieve first and second place on the podium. Off the track, Schumacher is a UNESCO ambassador and a spokesperson for driver safety. In 2013, he was seriously injured in a skiing accident at the Meribel ski resort in the French Alps and fell into a coma.[1] He has been undergoing treatment since the accident and is reported to have difficulty with even basic functions. In 2020, he was named the "Most Influential Person in Formula 1 History" in a survey conducted by Formula 1 for its 70th anniversary.
