Hasegawa Shin (March 15, 1884 (Meiji 17) - June 11, 1963 (Showa 38)) was a Japanese novelist and playwright. His real name was Hasegawa Shinjiro. Other pen names he used included Yamano Imosaku and Hasegawa Imoo, as well as Shunpuro, Hamano Satojin, Manmantei, Rei-rei-tei, and Rei-rei-tei-shujin (he kept his real name secret due to his side job as a newspaper reporter, which is why he used so many pen names). A popular literary writer, he was well-versed in the nuances of human emotions and was known for his stories of traveling. It was Hasegawa who invented the "Matatabemono" genre, and the "righteousness" he describes in his stories is said to have been modeled after what he learned as a laborer in his youth after his family's downfall.
