Navy Helicopter, Busy Tower & Blue Angels | Dauphin Island to Pensacola
This short flight from Dauphin Island, Alabama, to Roscoe Field near Pensacola is packed with action from the moment we take off! Departing Dauphin Island Airport, 4R9, we pass a Navy training helicopter before circling over historic Fort Gaines, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, and the surrounding town. We then follow the Dauphin Island Ferry across Mobile Pass toward Fort Morgan. Past Fort Morgan, the radio comes alive. Gulf Shores Tower (KJKA) is extremely busy, with multiple jets and Cessnas all trying to enter the pattern and land. We receive clearance through the tower’s airspace and continue along the Alabama Gulf Coast over Little Lagoon, Gulf Shores, Gulf State Park, Orange Beach, and Perdido Pass. Over Perdido Key, we pick up flight following from Pensacola Approach for a calmer and incredibly scenic run past Ono Island, Johnson Beach, and the Gulf Islands National Seashore. We make a circle over Pensacola Pass, historic Fort McRee, and the remains of the old coastal defenses guarding the entrance to Pensacola Bay. The flight ends with a turn directly over the historic Pensacola Lighthouse and NAS Pensacola’s Sherman Field. As we approach Roscoe Field, we spot the Blue Angels’ F/A-18 Super Hornets parked on the ramp before entering the left downwind for Runway 18. The Piper Comanche is known for landing a little flat—but how did Virgil do this time? Watch through the landing and let us know how you would score it! ✈️ AIRCRAFT 1959 Piper Comanche 250 N6057P 📍 ROUTE Dauphin Island Airport, Alabama — 4R9 Roscoe Field, Florida — 82J 📺 Join the Plane Places & Adventures channel: / @planeplaces CHAPTERS 00:00 Departing Dauphin Island 01:27 Navy Helicopter Traffic 02:27 Circle Over Dauphin Island 04:50 Dauphin Island Ferry 05:18 Fort Morgan 08:58 Gulf Shores Tower 10:31 Little Lagoon 12:56 Gulf Shores, Alabama 14:02 Gulf Shores Airport 14:39 Gulf State Park Fishing Pier 15:58 Orange Beach, Alabama 17:14 Perdido Pass 18:02 Ono Island 20:20 Perdido Key, Florida 21:31 Johnson Beach 23:35 Fort McRee 26:02 Pensacola Lighthouse 27:44 Left Downwind Roscoe 82J 28:23 Gear Down 29:40 Final Runway 18 #PiperComanche #GeneralAviation #DauphinIsland #GulfShores #Pensacola #BlueAngels #PilotLife
