Vilray sings 'Manhattan Serenade' (1928)
Louis Alter instrumental from 1928 that got lyrics later on. Best known as a musical cue from The Godfather (when Tom Hagen visits Woltz in LA) but was also the theme from My Man Godfrey. Tommy Dorsey had a hit with it, sung by Jo Stafford and so did Harry James, sung by Helen Forrest. Dig the crackle coming from my 1930s Volu-Tone tube amplifier behind me and the warm simplicity from my 1930s Amperite ribbon microphone in front of me.
