The teaching of 'Na' (Seizing) in Taijiquan in the Argentina Workshop 2024
Na Jin in Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is the controlling or seizing force used to control the opponent without grabbing. There are many ways to 'Na' depending on the suitable situation. In 'The Handouts of Taijiquan' or 太極拳講義 explains Na Jin as follows: "'Na Jin' refers to stopping the opponent's attack by controlling their arm to avoid their main force, by controlling their joints to restrict their movements, or by controlling their center of gravity to cause them to lose balance. However, this method does not rely on forceful grabbing but uses adhesion and sticking techniques. The Taijiquan method of 'Na' differs from external martial arts' joint-locking (Qin-Na) techniques. Joint-locking involves seizing the joints, grabbing the meridians, and controlling the pressure points to cause pain and force submission. In Taijiquan, it involves using Jin (force) to control (force), controlling the opponent's joints to restrict their movement, controlling their waist and hips to disrupt their ability to advance or retreat, or seizing their center of gravity to cause them to lose balance and render their entire body uncontrollable." In this video, I shared one technique of 'Na' to the joints in the arms, including the shoulder joints and elbow joints. Please understand that the video doesn't show that I am better than the participants. They came to learn with an open heart and allowed me to show them my skills.
