Army Physician Interview Series, COL Robinson, D.O. Preventative Medicine
COL Donald Robinson, DO, MBA, MTM&H has been assigned as Chief, Clinical Operations Division and Preventive Medicine Officer for United States Army Forces Command since 15 August 2020. He is responsible for coordinating medical, nursing, behavior health, physical fitness and force health protection activities while also serving as preventive medicine subject matter expert for the command. As a senior healthcare leader, COL Robinson develops deployment readiness policy and provides recommendations on healthcare policy and medical program implementation. Prior to this assignment, COL Robinson served as Deputy Commander for Health Readiness and Director of Public Health, Fort Riley Kansas; Preventive Medicine Officer Walter Reed Institute of Research and Graduate Student Uniformed Services University; Director of Communications Office of the Army Surgeon General (OTSG); Director, Patient Safety Division Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Department of Defense (DoD) and Deputy Chief Medical Officer for TRICARE Office of the Chief Medical Officer; Director, Army Trauma Training Center in Miami, Florida; Chief of Trauma for the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Bagdad, Iraq; Staff Surgeon and Critical Care Surgeon at Martin Army Community Hospital; Joint Task Force Surgeon in Bosnia and Ecuador; Group Surgeon, Battalion Surgeon, and Preventive Medicine Officer (ESEO) for 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Fort Bragg; and Deputy Chief of Preventive Medicine, Chief of Personnel, and Hospital Administrator at Womack Army Community Hospital Fort Bragg. Dr. Robinson earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine; Masters in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Uniformed Service University, Bethesda, Maryland; and Baccalaureate Degree in Biology and Mathematics from Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland. He completed residency training in both preventive medicine and general surgery. After completing surgery post-graduate training, Dr. Robinson completed fellowship training in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). He has received academic appointments as Adjunct Professor of Public Health from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas; Adjunct Professor of Public Health and Biometrics from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Silver Spring, Maryland; and Assistant Professor of Surgery, DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery from the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Dr. Robinson published numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters. He is the recipient of numerous Department of Defense awards and special honors, for example the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the prestigious Order of Military Medical Merit.
