When India Was Flooded by a Mile Thick of Lava; The Deccan Traps
There was once a time when much of India was coated in an active layer of lava more than a mile thick. As fissures hundreds of miles in length simultaneously erupted, significant volumes of lava were emplaced. This is the story of India's Deccan Traps Flood Basalts, which have left a lasting effect on the nation's modern geography. Note: The Deccan Traps are long extinct and will never erupt again. However, there were multiple times during when it was active approximately 66 million years ago that a mile thick of lava existed in certain spots, as mentioned in this video's thumbnail image.
