Square dancers descend on Waco for 75th annivesary convention

The Waco Suspension Bridge wasn’t built with dancing in mind, but that didn’t stop scores of square dancers from turning, promenading, allenmanding, swinging, sliding, half-sashaying, do-si-doing and showing off a dozen more steps there Wednesday morning, all under the direction of caller Keith Klix. The morning dances helped kick off what brought them and some 3,000 others to the Waco Convention Center this week: the National Square Dance Convention, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year in addition to the nation’s 250th birthday. Some 20 minutes and a faint blush of humidity-induced dampness later, dancers were off to their next improvised dance space for the morning, Magnolia Market at the Silos.
