In the community of El Tecolote, high in the semi-desert of Real de Catorce, lives a man whose story has touched all who know him: Don José Luis Bustos García, known as the Chief of the Desert or the Guardian of the Desert. From childhood, his life was filled with hardship. Until the age of seven, he couldn't walk due to a foot deformity and had to crawl. Without doctors, healers, or outside help, it was his will, perseverance, and character that led him, little by little, to get up again and again until he could walk. His story is marked by extreme moments: one of them was a fall into a well approximately 15 meters deep, from which he managed to survive. That event changed his life forever and strengthened his connection to the desert and to life itself. Today, Don José Luis is a highly respected and admired figure.
