Understanding Rebirth The phrase "die before you die" is an old mystical teaching. It means letting go of your ego. Think of the ego as a heavy, thick mask. When this mask breaks, it can feel like your old life has ended. You return to life as your true, peaceful self. Life gives you tough moments to help you grow. These moments break down the old you. When you move past the pain, you are reborn with a clearer mind.
