CAPO VERDE 🇨🇻 DAL 182° POSTO DEL RANKING A RISCRIVERE LA STORIA DEI MONDIALI

Cape Verde is the smallest nation ever to reach the round of 16 of a World Cup. I flew to the island of Sal for 48 hours to experience Cape Verde's historic qualification for the 2026 World Cup among the locals—and to tell the story of football in Cape Verde, from its origins to the feat that stunned the world. An archipelago of 500,000 inhabitants, smaller than Molise, with a semi-professional league and a recently formed national team—the Tubarões Azuis, the Blue Sharks. Yet, starting from 182nd in the FIFA rankings, Cape Verde drew with Spain and Uruguay and entered World Cup history. In this documentary, I explain where it all began: the discovery of the archipelago, five centuries of Portuguese colony, independence in 1975, the diaspora that keeps the country afloat and fuels the national team, goalkeeper Vozinha, coach Bubista, and the night of qualification in Santa Maria Square. 📌 In this video: the history of Cape Verdean football, the oldest club (CS Mindelense), the Portuguese Cup, the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, qualification for the 2026 World Cup, and the journey between Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina.
