Barely Hanging On: Weak Seal Bull Rescued from Deadly Gill Net

For a moment, we thought we were too late. A massive seal bull, wrapped in a gill net, was very weak and emaciated. His body was showing the toll of prolonged entanglement. When the OCN team arrived, he began to move, giving us hope that there was still time to save him. Gill nets are nearly invisible underwater and trap everything in their path. They are so destructive that even Namibia, a developing country, has imposed strict laws against their use. Unfortunately, this seal had already suffered greatly, with deep wounds cutting into his body. He was on the brink of death.
