ESCOTIS - Capiztahan Saot Capiz: Capisnon Folk Dance Virtual Showcase (Mun. of Panay and Ivisan)

THIS VIDEO IS NOT FOR REUPLOAD. ESCOTIS The name escotis must have been derived from the word schottische, a common dance in Europe in the 19th century. Escotis as popularly known in Capiz is performed in any social gathering of the people inhabiting the mountains of Capiz and in the barrios of Timpas in Panitan, and also in the town of Panay. In fact, no affair of this kind is complete without this dance. It is both interesting and amusing to note a common practice of the mountain people to test the strength and durability of the newly-built house by performing the Escotis dance at the housewarming. The jumping, hopping, stomping and the bucking movements involved in this dance is a real test of the durability of the floor and the house posts. The music goes faster and faster towards the end so that dancers almost collapse from being out of breath at the end but still laughing and enjoying it all. Those without endurance either give up or run away. Those who remain are further tested by being asked to whistle at the end of the dance.
