While maintaining its position in this category, the second-generation vehicle has become even more comfortable and user-friendly. The body has been lowered—it's 1,545 mm high (in the front-wheel drive version), and the lower center of gravity contributes to improved stability. It seems incredible that such a low car can comfortably accommodate seven adults, but it's true. The secret lies in the new, flat floor design (the so-called "bathtub floor")—the floor is the same level in all rows of seats. Unlike the previous generation, whose base powertrain was the 1.7-liter D17A engine (with a displacement of 1,668 cc, to be precise), the new Stream features the R18A (SOHC16) 1.8-liter (1,799 cc) engine. This 140 hp engine is offered with a 5-speed automatic transmission, including the all-wheel drive version. Some higher-end RSZ trims and the G-series are equipped with a 2.0-liter SOHC16 four-cylinder R20A engine. Its power output, for the sake of environmental performance, has been reduced slightly compared to the previous-generation 2.0-liter K20A unit—150 hp versus 154-158 hp. This engine is available with either an automatic or a continuously variable transmission, with the former only available on all-wheel-drive models.
