When The Author Goes Back On Character Death

The Sasuke Retrieval Arc is one of the best Naruto arcs, however, we see a big Naruto Retcon in it. Origincally, Kishimoto was going to kill Neji and Choji in this arc. The Neji vs Kidomaru and Choji vs Jirobo fights were great and they ended hinting that both Neji Hyuga and Choji Akimichi died. About 40 chapters later, at the end of the Sasuke Retrieval Arc we find out Neji and Choji surivived, but this is a retcon.
