Downcast Collision - Overthrown [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

The story of Overthrown: Overthrown is the opening track off of Downcast Collision’s album “Rise Up” (2017). The song title refers to being removed from power, not as a monarch or ruler of a country of some sorts, but as a ruler of one’s own emotions. The song deals with trying to gain control over those emotions, so that they are not in control of you. A power struggle of words and will. A fortress built to keep those feelings out, yet being trapped inside it as a result. Someone is trying to (aggressively) break through the wall that has been built. Yet being behind walls, the individual in the song, can’t make out, whether the person trying to overthrow the walls is friend or foe and thus tries to keep him out. Feeling numb and dulled, the person inside those walls, also wants to break out on one hand, but on the other hand, fears not being able to handle it. “Facing the wall” is about admitting the problem, but not being able to see beyond it. A profound fear remains of being crushed by those emotions that haven’t been dealt with, as they fall on top of you like a brick wall. But I am facing the wall, a sense of dullness from deep within As all the bricks come to fall, from under the rubble I scream From under the rubble I scream Here comes the shutdown, close down I can’t turn around, no Here comes the shutdown, close down I can’t turn around I don’t want to feel. Here comes the shutdown, close down. Stand back, give way I don’t want to feel. Here comes the shutdown, close down I can’t turn around But I am facing the wall, a sense of dullness from deep within As all the bricks come to fall, from under the rubble I scream And it all comes down. Stand back, give way I am overthrown. And the scar is left on my soul! Overthrown!
