His great-grandfather started the family chicken farming business, but Kenny Toh of Toh Thye San is a very different breed of chicken farmer. Much of his time is spent making deals with suppliers abroad, to help Singapore ensure a constant supply of poultry even when a crisis like the 2022 Malaysian chicken export ban arises. Kenny is just one link in a chain – one that includes officers from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) who scout for, rigorously inspect and accredit overseas farms and slaughterhouses.
