Voyage au bout du monde : À la rencontre des Tibétains et des Qiang

The Other Tibet: Off the Beaten Path in China (Western Sichuan / Aba) 🇨🇳🏔️ Welcome to this new vlog and travel documentary from the heart of Western Sichuan, a spectacular region largely unknown to most travelers visiting China. After my adventure in Hengyang, I'm taking you beyond the Qionglai Mountains to explore Aba Prefecture, a fascinating territory where Han, Tibetan, and Qiang cultures coexist. In the first part of this mini-report, we meet a unique ethnic minority: the Qiang. Nicknamed "the cloud people," they live in veritable stone fortress villages (Diaolou) built into the mountainsides. We will discover the mysteries of their purely oral language, preserved today thanks to the Rma alphabet, before sharing a convivial moment over an authentic local Qiang hot pot with yak and dried pork. Then, we ascend to higher altitudes to enter the world of Tibetan Buddhism. We will explore local life, the architecture of Khampa buildings, and the complexity of the various Tibetan dialects. This journey is also a profound immersion in spirituality and sacred rituals. Did you know that Aba harbors unique traditions and mystical schools that many believed to be extinct, such as the Jonang lineage? We will also delve into the secrets of the Bön tradition, the original shamanic religion of Tibet, and explore three exceptional and (for some) secret Tibetan monasteries: 📍 Changlie Temple: Perched at 3,400 meters above Barkam, this 800-year-old Nyingma (Red Hat) school temple was magnificently rebuilt after being destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. 📍 Gengdasi Temple: A thousand-year-old sanctuary nestled on Mount Faluo, famous for its monumental 18-meter-high statue of Padmasambhava. 📍 Sangdansi Temple in Lixian: A Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) school monastery with its stark stone architecture, a perfect cultural boundary between the Qiang and Tibetan worlds. An intense adventure, amidst misty landscapes, sacred peaks, and traditions preserved through the ages. 👉 Subscribe so you don't miss the next videos exploring the unknown China and its history! 🎉 JOIN THE COMMUNITY: If you're passionate about Asian cultures, traditional architecture, or travel photography, subscribe and turn on notifications so you don't miss any of our upcoming explorations! 📸 MY PORTFOLIO: http://lucasgangneux.com/ 🗺️ MY CHINA GUIDES: https://payhip.com/LucasInChina MY INSTAGRAM:   / lucas_inchina   --- CHAPTERS: 0:00 - Introduction to the documentary 0:30 - Weekend plan overview 1:17 - Road Trip begins 2:04 - The Qiang people and their culture 3:52 - The Qionglai Mountains 4:47 - The Tibetans and their culture 7:21 - Tibetan Buddhism 9:05 - Changlie Temple 10:27 - Gengda Temple 11:15 - Sangdan Temple
