A Canadian Built Classic on Canada Day Eve

After featuring my work place vessel the RORO Chi-Cheemaun for the past few videos, as well as a video of the Ontario Venture (I rarely profile Chinese built boats), the Classic Lake Boat Channel returns to it's roots with the popular classic CSL boat Frontenac. In this video the Frontenac had just exited Lock 7 and was heading downbound in the Welland Canal, on her way to Fairport Harbor, OH. The oldest boat in the CSL fleet, the Frontenac was built by Davie Shipbuilding in Lauzon, QC in 1968 and converted to a self-unloader in 1973 at Collingwood, ON. She is 729'11" in length and has a beam of 75'. The Frontenac is still powered by her original Sulzer 6RND76 6-cylinder turbo charged diesel engine, which puts out 9600 bhp and is good for a speed of 14.5 knots. Recorded on June 30th, 2026.
