Ejercicios para vertigos o mareos de Brandt-Daroff
Do you feel like the world is spinning when you move your head? Do you experience recurring vertigo? In this video, I'm going to give you some simple tools to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Hey everyone, welcome back to Physiotherapy at Your Fingertips! Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo? Don't let the name fool you; this condition refers to vertigo that appears suddenly when you move your head. BPPV is responsible for up to 20% of cases of recurring dizziness, so let's review a couple of techniques to resolve this problem. Before we begin, if you're not clear on what I'm talking about or if you simply want more information about this issue, you can click in the upper right corner of the screen for a complete explanation. Additionally, I've recorded a bonus video that will help you assess the presence of this problem and determine if BPPV is truly the cause of your dizziness. You can access it again by clicking in the upper right corner of the screen. All this information may be helpful, but it's advisable to see your doctor or a healthcare professional if you've experienced dizziness for an extended period so they can evaluate the true cause of the problem. Okay, the exercises I'm about to show you will help you feel better. First, let's do the Brandt-Daroff exercises. You should perform these exercises five times on each side, twice a day, holding each position for 30 seconds. The dosage is just as important as performing the exercise correctly, so pay close attention. Basically, the exercise consists of turning your head 45 degrees to one side and holding it in that position while you lean to the side. It's very likely that you'll notice a worsening of symptoms during the exercise, and you may feel more dizzy. Therefore, it's advisable to place a bucket nearby, just in case. Let's look at the entire procedure step by step. It's important to do the exercises in a quiet place, on a day when you have no plans or obligations, as you'll need a moment of relaxation afterward to recover. Sitting on a soft surface, such as your bed, turn your head 45 degrees to one side. Pay attention to this: if your head is turned 90 degrees, the exercise won't be as effective. Let yourself fall to the opposite side from where you turned your head, while simultaneously raising your feet onto the bed, maintaining the 45-degree rotation of your head. Not fully turned, nor turned to the side. Hold this position for 30 seconds without moving your gaze. You may feel worse at this point, but the dizziness should gradually subside. After 30 seconds, return to the starting position and look straight ahead for another 30 seconds. At this point, you'll likely feel dizzy again; however, the sensation should gradually subside over the course of those 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, repeat the exercise, this time looking to the opposite side. Follow the same procedure: head at a 45-degree angle, 30 seconds without moving your gaze while lying down, and another 30 seconds after returning to the starting position. Repeat until you've completed 5 repetitions on each side, twice a day. After two weeks, if you suffer from positional vertigo, you should feel a noticeable improvement. That's all there is to it. It seems simple, but it can accentuate your symptoms and make you feel very dizzy during the day, so take my advice and do it on a day when you have absolutely nothing to do. I'm so glad you watched the whole video! I hope you found it helpful, and I'd appreciate it if you could subscribe and share it with anyone who might need it. Thank you so much for watching, and I hope to see you in the next video.
