Wagner Prize Song from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg [The Mastersingers of Nuremberg] is an opera or music drama by Richard Wagner. It is one of his most popular operas, due largely to the wonderful melodic writing, comic elements and happy ending. After the turbulent harmonic language of Tristan and Isolde, Wagner demonstrates in this work that it is possible to compose using a conventional harmonic palette and still make it sound fresh and modern. The prize song takes place towards the end of Act 3 where the knight Walter von Stolzing sings an ecstatic song to win the prize and heart of his beloved Eva.
