On my Oleo-Mac MH 197 RK motor-cultivator, when starting the engine, the spark plug began to become covered with a black coating. The engine was difficult to start and black smoke was coming out of the exhaust pipe. If the engine of a walk-behind tractor or cultivator starts poorly, or does not start at all, first of all you need to unscrew the spark plug and check its condition. If the spark plug is wet, this indicates a breakdown of the ignition system of the walk-behind tractor engine or insufficient air in the fuel-air mixture. If the spark plug is dry, this indicates a malfunction in the fuel supply system or an excess of air in the fuel-air mixture. In my case, the spark plug was wet with a black coating, which indicates an insufficient amount of air and a working engine ignition system. In this case, you must first check the condition and cleanliness of the air filter of the engine of the walk-behind tractor or cultivator. On my cultivator it was clean. Then you need to unscrew the two nuts securing the carburetor and remove it from the engine, disconnecting the gasoline hose and the throttle valve drive. Unscrew the cap of the carburetor float chamber and check the tightness of the needle valve. If it is sealed, then using compressed air it is necessary to blow out the fuel and air jets of the carburetor. Then you need to check the cleanliness of the carburetor air channels and you can install the carburetor in its place. The air duct in the carburetor of my motor cultivator was clogged with dirt and there was not enough air for the normal formation of the air-fuel mixture.
