JF1100 and Lamborghi 1706 working
We got the axle back together on the Lamborghini anyway in time to make the silage pit. I was quite stressed on the day of making this silage and severely overheating as the blower fan in the Lamborghini wasn't working. The tractor is able for the harvester but honestly, in hindsight looking at these video clips, I wasn't feeding the grass into the harvester half quick enough. I was so paranoid about blocking it as in the morning we picked the field I made this video in • JF1100 in cab view Part 2 and it took us over 3 hours because of blockages. I should not have raked that first field. The grass was too heavy and there was wet soft parts of ground everywhere. I underestimated the working capacity of my JF for the rest of the day and drove it way too cautiously. You can see in the videos I'm hardly even loading the engine of the Lamborghini only when a big lump gets sucked in. I struggled to put away 20 acres of silage in the one day due to this and other minor issues with the tractor, the fact there was a very long draw in one field and that I got stuck once and discovered the 4wd wasn't working in the lamborghini anymore. All these setbacks ruined the output for the day. It was only the following morning I decided to go up the gears and realised I was going 2 gears too slow the day before and I'm totally kicking myself over it. But it didn't matter anyway because the setup of the ex60 with a 6ft fork I welded up in days prior to making the pit was not able to cope with the volume of grass coming towards it even with the lessened output of the harvester. The Claas eventually dropped its' trailer and put on a fork as well to help at the pit but it was still done pretty poorly as the digger is just not the right tool for that job. So that's it. All done for another year. Too much hassle and it worked out the same rate as the contractor charges us to do the silage because of all the hired help and the fact my tractors are broken down in the workshop and I hired in 2 people with their own tractors. A contractor came with their wagon and picked up the remainder of the long draw that my trailer drivers were not super happy about carting back to the yard given the no brakes situation with my trailers. They took it in 4 wagon loads so that is not so fun. I'm working so hard with my cheaper machinery to do the same amount of work that a modern machine can come in and do with one man and machine in just 4 or 5 hours. It really sucks. It's fair disheartening to see something like that. However I did have some fun in making the pit. When things were going well I did enjoy it. My partner came and brought us cookies. She took these videos as well so a big thanks to her for that. I think my system of this harvester and the trailers has the potential to be fast and much cheaper than the contractor but I'm just really struggling to get it to that stage. Something seems to hinder it from being relatively hassle free every year. At least the harvester went flawlessly this year, I cannot blame it for refusing big ridiculous lumps left after the rake in awkward spots and wet patches. The rake did such a nice job in 99% of places and would have sped me up if I had fed the harvester properly. The father is not keen on using the harvester again and is pushing me to sell it but I'm only going to lose money on it if I do that so I may just mothball all the gear for a few years in the worst case scenario. I'll oil them up and preserve them and maybe if he quits the dairying and the silage ground becomes nearer to home we can try use the JF again. We'll see. For next year if we are doing it again I will try buy a small loading shovel or something anyway. I could do with one for a double trunk to move a lot of bales anyway and I need a loader of sorts near the workshop often enough for lifting things so it would be used outside of making the pit one day in the year. That's all for this one anyway. More videos to follow....
