The 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States will be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, up from 32 teams at every World Cup since 1998 - but that's not the only change. The 2026 World Cup will be longer, feature far more games, and it will see a brand new group stage, qualifying, and knockout format.
