According to official data, sales increased by 0.9% compared to the previous month, marking a slight rebound after several months of decline. However, compared to May of last year, sales show a decrease of 0.7%, demonstrating that consumption has not yet recovered to previous levels. So far this year, the accumulated decline has reached 2.8%, reflecting a sustained negative trend in the sector. The average purchase amount in May was close to 37,000 pesos, indicating small purchases of just two to four items per visit. The report also distinguishes between sales made in physical stores and those made through supermarkets' own online channels. The majority of transactions were completed in person: INDEC recorded sales of 2.4 trillion pesos in physical stores compared to only 85 billion pesos through online channels.
