‘70 Triumph Spitfire Spit 6 - Carbs, Quick Racks and Wiring Gremlins…Oh My!
We’re back on the 1970 Triumph Spitfire Spit 6 today. We come back to fix the issues we discovered in a past video with the Stromberg triple carbs where only one of the three had adjustable needles which made syncing the carbs nearly impossible. We move on to discuss the results of the compression testing before and after adjusting the valves and expand on how improper valve lash can result in burnt valves. Then we move on to find a new problem with the quick rack which will result in a decision to be made by the current owner. Since this car came in with a 3” binder of receipts and paperwork, we’ve been able to track where the previous owner not only chased continuing electrical issues but also gave us some insight on the parts purchased and modifications that have been made to the car. Many of those electrical problems are still happening but we think we have found the heart of the problem. Moving inside the car, the owner has asked us to make some modifications to the dash and also install a recently updated radio which will be happening in an upcoming video. Stay tuned as we work our way through the ever-growing list of fixes on this Spitfire.
