Packing list: What has proven to be the best? Italy Divide Winners: How do they train? ▼▼▼ Open description - All information about the Italy Divide ▼▼▼ Italy Divide – Most Important Information Length: The Italy Divide is at least 1250 km long. When I participated, it was even 1300 km! The 20,000 meters of elevation gain are also quite challenging. Route Characteristics: The route includes long asphalt and gravel sections. A gravel bike has a significant advantage on these sections, as it rolls quickly on gravel and asphalt. The route also includes numerous challenging mountain bike trails. The Italy Divide route repeatedly leads through challenging terrain, and this is where a mountain bike has a clear advantage. You can learn more about the exact details and highlights in this Italy Divide review. I'll go into detail about the notable sections of the route. Highest point: The highest point, at 1,750 meters, is the "Parco Naturale della Lessinia" nature reserve in the foothills of the Alps. Temperatures here can easily drop to 0 degrees Celsius and snow. During my Italy Divide participation, the temperature at the summit was around 3 degrees Celsius, and it alternated between rain and hail. For most of the time, the Italy Divide is a nature experience: The route runs through the wild and remote regions of Italy. Italian history can be experienced time and again near the trail. The route starts in Pompeii and leads through the historic city centers of Rome, Siena, Florence, Bologna, and Verona. Distance: 1300 kilometers Elevation gain: 20,000 meters Highest point: 1750 meters Duration: 5 to 9 days Highlights: The Italy Divide is all about nature, culture, and adventure! In this section, you'll learn more about the highlights of the Italy Divide route. Which sections are particularly spectacular? What should I pay attention to? Where does a gravel bike pay off, and where does an MTB have an advantage on the Italy Divide? ► Italy Divide – The right bike: MTB or gravel? Which is the right bike for a bikepacking adventure like the Italy Divide? A legitimate question! The organizer sums it up very well: “Best bike ride? I think a mix between gravel and front MTB, with fast-rolling tires.” But which is the "right" Italy Divide bike? As described above, the route is very diverse. Sometimes you can make fast progress. Other times, technical trails are the order of the day. ► Italy Divide Conclusion: The Italy Divide is a top-class event! At the same time, a self-supported adventure like this should not be underestimated. Fortunately, with the content from this blog post, you're well prepared ;) You now know about the highlights and particularly noteworthy sections of the route: I particularly enjoyed the mass start towards the summit of Mount Vesuvius, and it provides a lot of adrenaline right from the start! The route is very varied, and you won't be able to stop being amazed! You can experience practically the best that Italy has to offer on the Italy Divide route. Noteworthy: Large sections are on asphalt, where gravel bikes have the advantage. Some tough hiking trails and paths await you, and mountain bikes have the edge here! The Italy Divide experience shows: A mountain bike or gravel bike with really fat tires (2.25 to 2.4 inches) and a suspension system is the way to go.
