Launceston is a northern Tasmanian port at the mouth of the Tamar River and the second largest city in Tasmania, located 198 km from Hobart. It was founded in 1806 by Colonel William Paterson and was originally called Patersonia. It was renamed after the Royal Governor's hometown in the English county of Cornwall. It is the third oldest city in Australia. Launceston je severotasmánský přístav na začátku ústí řeky Tamar a druhé největší město Tasmánie ležící 198 km od Hobartu.
