We bring you a test drive review (highway edition) of the Suzuki Katana, one of this season's most anticipated models. ~The following is an excerpt from the Suzuki website~ Based on the GSX-R1000 engine, this model has been tuned for street riding to deliver powerful torque at low rpm and powerful engine characteristics at high rpm. It features Suzuki's proprietary SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material) plated cylinders, reducing friction loss and ensuring excellent heat dissipation, wear resistance, and airtightness. Ventilation holes are provided below each cylinder, allowing pressure to escape to the adjacent cylinder as the piston descends, reducing pumping loss. It also features a slipper clutch for exciting street riding. It controls back torque transmitted from the rear wheel, preventing rear wheel lock and hopping caused by excessive engine braking during downshifts. The fuel injection system uses the Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV). The short, compact muffler design and blacked-out silencer body emphasize a sleek appearance. A partition plate inside the air cleaner improves intake efficiency and tunes the intake sound. Combined with the exhaust sound, it creates an exhilarating acceleration sensation that stimulates the senses. It complies with Japan's 2016 exhaust gas regulations, achieving both environmental friendliness and performance. The bike features LED rear combination lamps and a swingarm-mounted rear fender with turn signals, a first for Suzuki, featuring rear turn signals and an integrated license plate holder. The clean space under the seatpost further emphasizes the short tail, contributing to a tough, lightweight impression. The bike is equipped with an advanced traction control system. This system efficiently transfers engine power to the rear tire for a more comfortable ride. Select your preferred mode from three options, or turn it off. The front brakes feature Brembo radial-mount monobloc calipers. Combined with 310mm floating-mount dual discs, they deliver powerful stopping power. The ABS* unit is made by Bosch, and is lightweight and compact. The KATANA is equipped with optimally tuned front and rear suspension and specially designed tires for superior grip and handling. The Suzuki Easy Start System allows for one-push starting. When the starter button is pressed, the starter motor rotates for a set period of time, after which the 32-bit ECM recognizes the starting situation and stops the starter motor. The Low RPM Assist function, which uses information from engine speed, gear position, throttle opening, and clutch switch to control engine speed drop when starting off or riding at low RPMs, ensures smooth starts. It also provides peace of mind when riding at low speeds in traffic jams or making U-turns. The lightweight, compact, full-LCD multi-function instrument panel provides the rider with a wealth of information, providing high usability.
