Building Control Refused to Sign This Off — Here’s Why #bricklaying #construction

Today we’re on a structural repair job, taking over from a previous builder after the steelwork couldn’t be signed off by Building Control. The steels themselves looked great, but the vital inspection of the ground and pads beneath them never happened — meaning this extension couldn’t be passed. We dug out all four pad areas, exposed the original 450mm concrete pads, and found poor ground beneath. Working with the structural engineer’s updated drawings, we drilled into the original pads, installed all required 400mm rebar with resin, added a few extra bars for good measure, compacted the ground properly, and mass-filled everything with concrete. A lot of digging, drilling, resin, rebar, concrete, DPM reinstating and finishing — but the steels are now fully supported and ready for sign-off so the client can finally continue their build.
