This is What's Wrong with Modern Sermons

Brian Mosley preached a sermon… but the problem is, it had almost nothing to do with the Bible. Original video: https://www.youtube.com/live/UaFtM5Pu... In this video, we are looking at a message that sounded spiritual, emotional, and energetic — but when you actually examine the content, the Scripture was barely the foundation. This is one of the biggest problems in modern preaching today: a preacher can take a text, read a verse, shout around it, tell stories, hype the crowd, make declarations, and still never actually explain what the Bible means. That is not biblical preaching. A sermon is not automatically biblical just because a Bible verse was mentioned. A message is not sound doctrine just because the preacher said “God,” “faith,” “anointing,” or “purpose.” If the sermon does not explain the text, point people to Christ, call people to truth, and rightly handle the Word of God, then we have to ask what is really being preached. Too many sermons today are motivational speeches wearing church clothes. They sound powerful, but they are empty. They stir emotions, but they do not teach Scripture. They make people shout, but they do not make people understand the Word. They center the preacher’s personality more than the biblical text. And that is dangerous. Brian Mosley’s sermon is another example of how some preachers can use the Bible as a launching pad for their own ideas instead of letting the Bible speak for itself. Instead of carefully walking through the passage, explaining the context, and showing what God’s Word actually says, the message becomes about performance, crowd reaction, personal stories, and inspirational phrases. But the church does not need more pulpit entertainment. The church needs the Word of God. The Bible commands preachers to preach the Word, not preach around the Word. Pastors and teachers are not called to use Scripture as decoration. They are called to rightly divide it, explain it faithfully, and feed God’s people with truth. When preaching becomes disconnected from Scripture, people are left spiritually malnourished. They may feel excited in the moment, but they are not being grounded in doctrine. They may feel encouraged, but they are not being discipled. They may leave saying, “That was powerful,” but they may not actually know what the Bible teaches. That is a serious problem.
