Vinyl Stylus Shootout AT-VM95SH, VM520EB, Ortofon 2M Red Blue, ft David Bowie - Rock & Roll Suicide
This is an original Ryko pressing of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust on clear vinyl followed by the Ryko CD for reference. 0:00 - 3:00 AT-VM95C 3:00 - 6:00 AT-VM95EN 6:00 - 9:00 AT-VM95SH 9:00 - 12:00 AT91R 12:00 - 15:00 LP Gear ATN3600DLXVL 15:00 - 18:00 AT100E 18:00 - 20:56 Ortofon MKII Night Club 20:56 - 23:56 Ortofon Red 23:56 - 26:56 Ortofon 2M Blue 26:56 - 29:56 AT VM520EB 29:56 - 32:56 Ryko CD Featuring "Rock and Roll Suicide" by David Bowie from the Ryko Vinyl release plus a comparison with the Ryko CD! Stylus Shootout: AT-VM95SH, AT-VM95EN, AT-VM95C, AT100E, VM520EB, AT91R, LP Gear ATN3600DLXVL, Ortofon 2M Blue, Ortofon 2M Red, Ortofon MKII Night Club Which do you prefer? The AT-VM95 series sounds great here, and may be better in some respects (but not all) than the Ortofon 2M series. It's more relaxed and less compressed-sounding. The 95C surprises as it almost sounds as good as the 95SH. With this material though, I believe the Ortofon 2M Blue is the authority as it is clear, punchy, detailed and has great bass. Both the 2M Red and the VM520EB stand tall but reveal some sibilance. The MKII is very compressed but loud and clear. It's very close to the 2M Red to my ears. The two 91R styluses sound very good but are the weakest in the bunch. The LP Gear ATN3600DLXVL has almost the same sound as the AT91R despite being a "vivid line" but is slightly more refined and has much better tracking.
