In this video I discuss an automaker taking decisions to increase profits by building cars with cheaper and less reliable parts. The auto engineers usually had very good engineering and solutions to problems, but cost cutting played a large role in the final decision for many components. This video discusses a decision by an automaker to build engines with a cheaper head gasket, knowing that a new reliable design was available at extra cost. These kinds of decisions increased short term profits for the company but resulted in upset customers that would turn to a competitor to buy their next car.
